Challenger Class A Gas Motorhome Reviews

thor-rvPreviously a Damon product, Thor Industries gained the Damon brands through a merger and continued manufacturing the well-known Challenger Class A motorhome, now as a Thor Motor Coach (TMC) model. Previous coaches for the Challenger brand were filled with issues and problems, from leaks to vinyl peeling off the backing and other poor quality material. TMC has recently re-designed the Challenger line of their premium gas-powered Class A motorhomes and is working to address those problems.

The Challenger Class A motorhomes are built on a Ford Triton 6.8L V10 Engine, with a 5-Speed TorqueShift Automatic Transmission (with overdrive) and GVWRs of 22,000 lbs. These coaches have 34,000 BTU furnaces, a 6-gallon gas / electric water heater with an electric ignition, an Onan RV QG 5500 gas generator, and 13,500 BTU duel roof air conditioners. The Class A Challengers are constructed with a fully welded tubular aluminum cage, which includes the roof and sidewalls, and Vacu-Bonded™ laminated roof, floor and walls, all with high-density block foam insulation.

The Thor Challenger Class A coach has four floorplans with numerous slideout options. New and upgraded floorplans feature modern innovative designs, including spacious kitchens with luxurious amenities such as an island and a wine rack with hanging glass storage, as found in the newest floorplan, the Challenger 37GT model. This 38-foot coach has a free-standing dinette and a king bed sleeping area. The sofa is placed just behind the cockpit swivel captain chairs and across from a 32” LCD TV and fireplace, giving an open living area concept. This provides full-time RVers with the desired aspect of a home away from home.

Interior heights are 82 inches and exterior heights are 12 feet 7 inches. Storage is pushed to the max with the smallest Challenger Class A at 36’ 8”, providing 215 cubic feet of exterior storage, and the largest floorplan at 37’ 10”, featuring 225 cubic feet of storage. This enormous amount of storage is among the largest available of all the Thor motorhome brands.
